I was browsing through some medical journals…. yes, I know… it’s a little boring, but there’s A LOT of information to understand and if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can get into trouble…
I go through this information to make sure I understand what are the best recommendations that I can give to my patients, and this article caught my attention.
Currently, the American Thyroid Association has an article about Hashimoto’s disease. This particular article makes the bold claim, “The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis…”
If you don’t know what Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is, then let me give you a quick explanation.
Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disorder of the thyroid. Which in essence it that the body itself, begins to attack and destroy the thyroid, and if it is not corrected, it will lead to lifelong health issues and ultimately can cause other organ systems in the body to break down and keep you sick.
So, if you have thyroid issue and have been to the doctor, and the doctors tell you that they think they can manage your thyroid issue, the FIRST question I would ask that doctor is – DID YOU PERFORM TESTS TO RULE OUT HASHIMOTO’S?
If they did not perform these tests – they are just guessing.
No matter what they find that MAY be wrong with the thyroid – if the Hashimoto’s is not addressed, you CANNOT get better.
So – this is all background to the article I was talking about earlier.
The article mentioned by the ATA stated that IF you have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, then your family members (and they talk about PRIMARY family members or FIRST DEGREE RELATIVES) are 9 TIME more likely to develop thyroid issues – particularly Hashimoto’s than non-family members.
So I have 2 questions for you?
- Do you have thyroid issues?
- Have you ruled out Hashimoto’s?
If you answered YES – to the first question – then we need to talk. There are several steps you can be taking to make sure your thyroid issues are under control and for many of the people that I’ve worked with in the past – we’ve been able to resolve long standing thyroid issues – that they thought would never go away.
If you answered NO – or YES to the second question – then – We MUST TALK!
There are SPECIFIC treatment protocols for people diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and if you are not currently addressing those issues – you are putting your long term health AT RISK! It is no longer just a “thyroid issue” – this disorder affects the entire system.
If the doctors haven’t ruled out Hashimoto’s – then you need to get on a call with us – right now! There are lab tests that must be performed to rule out this disorder and they can be done in your home town. So no matter where you are – give us a call and we’ll get you taken care of.
Don’t wait – you’ll thank me.
